At the time that Yamaha was busy developing its first supersportmodel, the YDS1, the YDT1 was a kind of "in "between" machine.
The Yamaha YDT1 was never sold in Europe, but my friend Graham Head from England managed to find 3 bikes in the USA. One was used as a "donor" bike, leaving one for him and one for me. His YDT1 has been sold abroad. YDT1 with frame number Y19-7873 is a lovely bike with its YD3 smooth engine and electric starter.
From above the frame gives a very surdy appearance.

The handlebar was typical touring with the revolving type throttle which Yamaha kept using in many small models during the 1960's.

The fueltank was nicely chromium plated with rubber knee grips. The 3 tuning fork emblems look very nice. (The very latest YDS3's had a similar chrome tank)

The YDT1 has a comfortable seat but it is still a frame with springs, other than the later steel base/foam ones (whic always rot through....!).

The speedometer is identical with the YD3.

The airfilter is already very modern. I replaced the torn paper element with a car filter.

The gearchange lever has this nice 1960's heel/toe operation.

The YD3 carburetor has the same 2-piece aluminium cover as the YD2.

Wiring harness is original and was/is in a very good condition.

The horn is securily mounted on the airfilter/battery box.

Taillight is similar to the YDS2 and very early YDS3 machines.

Different from most models, the chaincover was painted!
