In the early 1970's the Yamaha FS1P in all its versions was the best sold moped in Europe. This is how it all began. The Netherlands was the largest sports moped market at that time and the Importer, Messrs "Het Motorpaleis" (Motorpalace) was very keen and pushy to our office in acquiring one. At first we we thinking about the F5 model, pictured here with the owner of Het Motorpaleis, Mr. Hans Moerkerk. However later-on the FS1 with its chrome mudguards and a little more "sporty" styling was chosen. As pedals were required for the Dutch market (and they had to work as well, albeit as a kind of emergency system), the Service Manager Mr. Henk Dullens, made this system, which we later-on used in all countries that needed such a system. Tuning was very important for the boys and as the FS1P was a direct "Slow" brother of the FS1 motorcycle you only needed to purchase the motorcycle parts to go fast. This is the "kit" that gave you a 85 km/h topspeed. "High" exhaust system Dfl 79,25, Carburettor Dfl 56,43, FS1 rotary valve Dfl 10,72, front sprocket Dfl 7,40, Cylinder Dfl 63,78 and the Cylinder head Dfl 21,20 ! Some Yamaha dealers made already soon nice conversions of the FS1P. One dealer, Leen Rehorst from the Hague, offered this very nice "John Player Special" Yamaha FS1P in black with gold striping.
