The little 125 cc twin hit the market and with all the raceparts which could be ordered hundreds of AS1 based racers were used in Europe in the early 1970's.
My AS1-021900 is 100 % original, with only 6000 km on the speedometer. Some parts are maybe a little faded but I keep it as it is. The engine is very noisy with the cast iron cylinders but it propels the small bike easily to over 110 km/h!
The handlebar layout is very neat, with the "Norton Dominator" style flat handlebar the seat position is far better than any modern motorcycle!

As this AS1 is original there are of course a few scratches on the paintwork but "original" gives a good idea if you want to restore one of these fantastic little bikes. The battery is also an original Yamaha battery, do not ask me how I found it!

The rear of the AS1 should look like this. The chain is covered with a small chrome chainguard.

Behind the engine you see the nice vertical chrome airfiltershrouds connected to the carburetors with oddly shaped rubber manifolds.

My AS1 also has an original luggage carrier, like the YL1

The oiltank swivels out for filling. You have to unscrew the plastic knob, the tank hinges and is kept from falling away by a cotton strap.

The front brake is quite okay. It is not a racer of course, but properly adjusted it stops the machine quite well.
