| Yamaha YDS5 (DS2-DS3-DS6) final assembly |
|
We are now finalizing and adjusting the YDS5 and make it ready for the road....!!! Firstly fit the carburetors properly with all the hoses in place. Please note that it is much easier to test the bike without the airfilter and rubbers. If there is any problem (leakage or whatsoever) you do not have to remove everything again.

Adjust the clutch properly and make sure that the adjusting bolt has about a quarter of a turn free stroke. Bleed the oilline to the pump. It is really not necessary to bleed the oilpipes to the cylinders. I always use a 1:30 fuel/oil mix in the first tankfill. After a few hundred meters you have good lubrication, no problem.

Next you have to connect the electrics smoothly and carefully, especially when you connect the thick light green lead to the starter solenoid. On the picture the flasherrelay is fitted in a different way than original, but this way it vibrates less.

Turning to the left hand side of the bike, now we can align the kickstarter, gearchange pedal and footrest properly.

On the r.h. side of the motorcycle you can now properly adjust the footbrake linkage, lubricate it and fit the stoplightswitch if not done already.

Check the chaintension and carefully fit all the small parts for the rear brake cable

Check again that all rubber hoses, like the oilfeed, run properly and attach the badges on the oiltank and l.h. side cover.

Please fit the sprocket properly. As the metal tabwashers for the bolts are not available anymore, I Loctite the bolts to be sure. Give the chain a little bit of slack (it is not a racing bike anyway) and tighten everything up without too much force.

My speedometer/tachometer is a re-conditioned one. You do not find a new one easily in the world today. The chrome ring is a little bent because of the repair but you have to live with that. Everything functions properly! The handlebar comes from a XJ600 Diversion and is very similar to the original one.
