Yamaha TZ Racer colours

This is mostly for the European TD/TZ owners. People many times wonder about the correct colours of the racers.

I had new parts scanned by a large car painting shop and took the easily available MOTIP brand spray can numbers as reference.

Yamaha white = Mercedes truck white, Motip 45600

Yamaha red (Chappy Red) = Renault 071, Motip 41750

Yamaha silver (crankcase) = Motip 55120

Blue (350 ccm number plate) = Motip 44940

Green (250 ccm number plate) = Motip 44380

Hubert Ulmer from Germany wanted to know more details about the painting, so here we go (hopefully interesting for more people I do hope).

1) During the years, colours varied slightly, both the white and the red (red was slightly darker in the 1970's). Here are a few examples of the fueltanks over the years. Please note that the YAMAHA decals also change.....!

This "G" tank still has the tuning fork logo, so it is an early one, later it disappeared.

Generally the red line on top of the fuel tank is around 8,5 cm wide, tapering on the seat (depending on the year)

Around 1980/1981 the tuning fork logo disappeared, like on this "J" tank.

As an example for the cowling here the 350 cc TZ350G (needs repainting !)

1) the red line is 16 cm high, it starts 5 cm under the split where the topcowling is attached and runs exactly over the screw that attaches the cowling to the rearstay.

2)The number plate is 30 cm wide and 24 cm high, there is 5 mm between the red line on each side. The radius/corners on the numberplate are 100 mm diam. From the right the red line is 10 cm wide, next the small gap of 5 mm white, so the blue starts at 10,5 cm from the cowling edge (if you want to be very precise...!)

3) The front number plate on the topcowling has a width of 27,5 cm, the radius differs by model.

The topcowling is always fitted at the front to the tachometerbracket and at the "ears" to a bracket, which is fitted to the frame. Later models have 2 stays, one on each side of the steeringbracket.
