| Yamaha MF1 restoration, part 5# |
|
With some last efforts the Yamaha MF1 now finally has to be made ready for the road. The leg-shields have to be fitted and some other small things have to be done. It is surprising how you can be held up by these details!
The legshields are loosely attached to the cast aluminium stay above, the frame (halfway down) and to small plates attached to the front upper engine bolts.
Here is the small l.h. stay. It is simply a plate, a 6 mm nut welded on front and a rubber against friction and scratches.
When everything is in place, both shields can be fastened carefully.
The airfilter is attached to the carburetor inside the frame.
I glued a rubber string on the inside of the carburetor cover to avoid scratches and vibration.
Carburetor cover installed.
My local decal shop made some excellent original size decals for the headlamp.
The speedometer was a mess when I got it (you have seen the picture in a previous report). Thanks to a good friend of another friend (.....!) it is near perfect again.
The small aluminium riveted shield was scratched very much. I put a new decal on the aluminium shield and riveted it together to the crankcase cover. Looks very good!
After 2 years the Yamaha MF1 1961 is finally ready and it runs very sweet. Seat position is very cramped as it was designed for Japanese ladies with small feet.
I am satisfied with the result but now we have to try it as well!
Power is not overwhelming....... But the Yamaha MF1 is ultra smooth. That day I was surely the only person in the world who was riding a Yamaha MF1! That gives a good feeling after all that work. I put the battery temporarily on the luggage carrier as I only rode the machine around the block. No registration, no insurance, nothing yet. |
