Next to the YZ607 there was also the YZ608, the 350 cc bike. This was a further development of the first try-out, the Z608, based upon the street YR1.

Again, like with the YZ607, many parts were taken from the "shelves" (factory racers), like the huge RD05 brakes. But you can see the substantial difference in the engine. The YR1 was the first Yamaha motor with horizontal split crankcases and also unit Mikuni carburetors were fitted.

The engine shows clearly that it came from the street bike YR1-YR2-YR3 series

A good detailed picture of the left hand side with the exhaust, rear swinging arm, etc. If you are handy, you can just copy it! When you look carefully, you can see that the footrestrubbers are also standard Yamaha passenger footrest rubbers!

The fueltank looks very long from above and you can clearly see that it utilizes race parts and standard parts

The front view from the bike is impressive too.

Peter Abelmann even found a colour picture of the left hand side of the bike, the YR350 origins of the engine are evident. What a shame we do not have all the pictures that were surely made during that day........!
