| Yamaha DT1B of Ola Isaksen |
|
Ola Isaksen from Norway was quite happy with his beautiful Candy Orange Yamaha XS1-F but became curious into the other Candy Orange Yamaha of that period, the Yamaha DT1-B. As these machines are quite impossible to find now in Europe (very few were sold), Ola started searching the web and found indeed some, but most of the US people did not want to send the bikes across the Atlantic! But in 2005 Ola finally found an owner who was willing to do the transaction to far away Europe! The machine turned out to be a very much used 1969 Yamaha DT1-B, but the bike was complete and had some parts with it.
It turned out that the bike belonged to the seller’s Dad, who was a friend of the famous Swedish Motocross ace Rolf Tibblin in the 1960’s.
So the family new Scandinavians and Ola Isaksen being Norwegian, was out of the “danger” zone. The bike was shipped to Norway, arrived that winter and the job could start. It took Ola nearly 4 years to find all the parts and with careful scouting he managed to find all the painted parts as “New Old Stock”!!!!!!.
The fuel tank was the most difficult. It was owned by a Californian and it took our man 2 years to talk it away from him > direction Norway! Also a brand new buddy seat was found.
The Yamaha DT1B is now in a perfect condition and a real worthwhile addition to Ola’s museum.
