Borje Jansson's TD3

Torsten Weick from Germany has the ex-Borje Jansson TD3 from 1973 and puzzled the whole life history of the machine together. Very interesting !

In May 1973 Borje Jansson purchased his TD3 from the Swedish Importer "Hallman & Eneqvist" for the pricely sum of Sw.Kr. 12.500.

The second race in 1973 was the infamous bad weather G.P. at the Salzburgring in Austria, the 250 cc race was won by Jarno Saarinen as we all remember.

Torsten Weick pushed the Hockenheim Authorities for a long time but finally they gave him the original Entry form for the 250 cc race in 1973. It was filled-in by Borje Jansson's friend. Remembering the bore x stroke of the old TD2B he scribbled that down on the Entry form!

The third race at the fast Hockenheim circuit was performed in blazing sunshine and Jarno Saarinen won again. here is Borje Jansson preparing for the start. He scored a creditable 5th place in Germany.

At the Anderstorp circuit in Sweden Borje Jansson came home 8th.

After the terrible didaster the week thereafter in Monza Yamaha Motor NV decided to help the riders who were involved in the accident. Borje Jansson even still had the invoice for the spare parts. I remember now making these invoices and signing them.... You can see that the invoice was made in August, after Borje Jansson returned from Anderstorp and Imatra, on his way to Jarama.

During those years many of the G.P. riders came to Holland and participated in the local events between the G.P. in order to earn some extra cash. A famous circuit was "Hilvarenbeek" in the south. Here you see Borje Jansson on full song!

In 1974 Risto Makinen purchased the bike from Borje and rode it in the Finnish and Swedish Championships. Here is Risto preparing his bike for the event at the Karlskoga circuit.

Now follows the further life of the TD3 990492 !

In 1975 Risto Makinen sells the bike to Kent Karlsson who participates in the 1975 Swedish Junior Championship. Last race for the TD3 was Falkenberg (Sweden) in September 1975.

In the winter of 1975 the machine changes hand again and is purchased by Roger Pettersson (a cousin of Peter Sjostrom, a former 500 GP rider).

Roger Pettersson sells the TD3 again to Michael Sjostrom and in 1980 Peter Sjostrom purchases it from his cousin. (Anyway it stays in the family sofar).

Between 1975 and 1996 the poor TD3 was standing in a garage and was not moved anymore.......!

In 1996 it was found and purchased by Kjeld Hansen and he restored it to its former glory. Sometime later Torsten Weick, purchased it from Kjeld Hansen.

As Torsten Weick wanted to know everything he contacted Borje Jansson and it turned out that Borje is still the very precise man he always was (and is) as he had the invoices and all the other material, even some original Yamaha decals.

In 2005 Torsten Weick went with his TD3 to the "Bikers Classics" in Spa-Francorchamps to re-unite Borje Jansson again with his former bike. Torsten made sure that everything was okay.......

And Torsten Weick tries the bike himself first before handing it over to Borje Jansson.

Borje Jansson tries the TD3-990492. I am quite sure that he regrets selling it back in 1974 to Risto Makinen. But the bike is still there and most of the others disappeared unfortunately.

You can see on Borje Jansson's face that he really liked riding his old bike. He still fits in his old leathers so I would not be to surprised seeing him back soon on a classic race during one of our events.........!

Torsten received a nice poster with all the successes Borje Jansson had with the TD3 during the 1973 season.
