In 1968 two versions were marketed by Yamaha in the USA, the street G5S and the "off-road" YG5T. There was not much difference but the "T" looked very much as a baby Yamaha XT500 from a decade later.....!
It is nice to look at these "period" pictures. You remember surely that we all were wearing the same type of clothing, slacks, sweaters, suede shoes, etc.

Both models had the fashionable "up" exhaust sytem, looked pretty quick!

The "trail" model had knobby tyres, a solo seat, strong luggage carrier and a final drive ratio short enough to climb Mount McKinley! Actually it had 2 rear sprockets, so you could choose a high or low ratio.
