Several Collectors do like to know the differences between the YDS3 models and the bore-up 305 cc versions YM1 and YM2. And I found a YM2C (scrambler) one! Actually the YDS3 can only be comapred with the YM1, the YM2 was simply the big brother or sister from the YDS5E. This is a 1964 early YDS3 with the tuning fork emblem on the tank, one-piece front fender (same as the YDS2) and a black, thin seat. The brochure has a small cut-out. Someone needed the Yamaha emblem for his scrapbook! I will add the later YDS3 brochures later!
The technical specifications of the original YDS3.
Here you see the very first YDS3 that "landed" in Germany, pictured on the Nurburgring Circuit. It was a metallic green black bike. Picture taken in September 1964. The YM1 differed only externally in having a "305" badge on the sidecover, the cylinderheads had a different shape and the exhausts/mufflers had these very specific protruding silencers.

The YM2 was the enlarged version of the YDS5E and only had the following differences. A "305" emblem on the sidecover and a normal dynamo unit (no dynastart provision). The battery was therefore also smaller.

A very stylish machine it was. The YM2C was only sold in North America and was after the limited sales YDS3C the first volume "Scrambler" type Yamaha model.
Yamaha YM2C 1967
A very lovely machine it was (is). Difficult to find one with a good exhaust system!
