Yamaha HL500
After the introduction of the XT500 Yamaha's Swedish Distributor, Hallman & Eneqvist, came with the idea of building a 4-stroke Motocrosser.
The concept was worked out initially by Bengt Aberg, former World Champion himself like his Boss, Torsten Hallman, multiple World Champion and Torsten's partner Staffan Eneqvist, who had been in the World Championship winning Swedish team for the Trophy of de Nations. (Some people with experience.........)
Anyway, Yamaha Amsterdam liked the idea and it became one of our first "specials". As we had a "liason" with NVT (Norton Villiers Triumph) in Andover, U.K., we commissioned them to build around 500 units. These were sold very quickly. The engine was a US TT500, various cycle parts came from existing Yamaha MX models and the bike is now a true "Collector's" item. I have a nice colour picture, as soon as I find that, this one will be replaced!
Bengt Aberg even won a Grand Prix (Luxembourg) with this machine, the last win for a fourstroke for a long time to come.....!
Dave King recently found what must surely be the most unique HL500 in the world. This bike is practically brand new, has done less than 1 hour riding........! It just looks like it comes straight out of the crate. (You can click all 3 pictures for large format ones!)
Another view, now from the right hand side of this mighty motocross machine.
This detailed picture shows the different cylinder barrel. We are wondering what it is. If you know please tell us!
